Home Buyer Tax Credit overview-MUST HAVE CLOSED ON A HOME BY 30 September 2010, so now expired!!!  Special circumstances may qualify members of the Military, Foreign Service and Intelligence community for an extension through June 2011.  IRS defines first  time homebuyer as someone who has not owned a principal residence during the three-year period prior to the purchase.  New credit for  move-up buyers, defined as one who has owned and resided in the same home for at least five consecutive years of the eight years prior to  the purchase date.
